ABOUT US
MAF is a nonpolitical nonprofit dedicated to mustang and burro welfare, collaborating for successful adoptions, education, events, and wild mustang projects.
FOUNDER & DIRECTOR

Lynda Sanford, the visionary behind the Mustangs of America Foundation, serves as both the original founder and director.
Since its establishment in 2007, Lynda has been instrumental in shaping and sustaining the foundation's crucial projects and initiatives. Lynda contributes a wealth of expertise, acquired through years of dedicated work in the organization. Her unwavering commitment has been pivotal in advancing the mission of the Mustangs of America Foundation.

OUR VISION
At the Mustangs of America Foundation (MAF), our vision is a world where mustangs and burros can roam freely, cherished and protected. We see a future where these majestic creatures are valued for their beauty, spirit, and integral role in our ecosystem. We envision a landscape where mustangs and burros thrive in loving homes, where responsible training is the norm, and where cruelty towards these animals is eradicated. Our vision is one of collaboration, where we work hand in hand with partners like the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) to ensure the successful adoption and welfare of mustangs and burros nationwide.

WHAT WE DO
As a dedicated, all-volunteer nonprofit organization with 501(c)3 charitable status, MAF is committed to realizing our vision through concrete actions. We inform the public about mustang and burro adoption/training programs, providing guidance and support to new adopters facing training challenges. We promote events that showcase mustangs for adoption, fostering connections between these incredible animals and loving homes. Additionally, we lend our expertise and assistance to agencies working on wild mustang projects, leveraging our collective knowledge and resources for the betterment of mustangs and burros everywhere.

OUR COMMUNITY
At MAF, our community is at the heart of everything we do. We are a diverse group of individuals united by our passion for mustangs and burros. Together, we form a supportive network that advocates for the welfare of these animals and works tirelessly to make a difference. Whether it's through volunteering, participating in events, or spreading awareness, every member of our community plays a vital role in realizing our vision.
Together, we believe in a future where every mustang and burro has the opportunity to live a life of dignity, respect, and freedom.
Our Mission in Action: The Story of MAF
At Mustangs of America Foundation (MAF), we are dedicated to the protection, welfare, and adoption of wild mustangs and burros. As an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) nonprofit, we work to ensure these magnificent animals find safe and loving homes. In collaboration with the Bureau of Land Management, we help facilitate successful adoptions while easing the strain on overcrowded holding facilities.

In this video, we share the inspiring journey of our founder, Lynda Sanford, whose deep connection with Nevada’s wild horses transformed into a lifelong mission. From her first encounter with mustangs to establishing a sanctuary, Lynda has worked tirelessly to rescue thousands of mustangs and burros, providing them with a second chance. She also shares her experiences in gentling wild horses, the unique challenges they face, and the profound impact of a special mustang named Lil Gal.

But our work extends beyond rescue and adoption. MAF is committed to making a difference in human lives as well. Through partnerships with correctional facilities, we help parolees develop horsemanship skills, paving the way for careers in horse training and rehabilitation. We also support equine-assisted therapy programs that use mustangs to help veterans and individuals in need.

This video highlights the heart of our mission—advocacy, compassion, and the powerful bond between humans and mustangs. We invite you to watch, learn, and join us in creating a better future for these incredible animals.

A heartfelt thank you to Chalice Cluf and The Touch of a Mustang podcast for giving us the platform to share our story. Through her work, Chalice explores the deep healing connection between mustangs and humans, reminding us of our responsibility to protect and honor these wild spirits.

Together, we can make a difference.
