The Sacramento Sheriff’s Department, in partnership with the Bureau of Land Management and the Mustangs of America Foundation, started the Sacramento Wild Horse Program. This program is located at the Rio Cosumnes Correctional Center and will focus on short term holding and a vocational inmate gentling and training program to prepare wild horses for adoption to the public.
After growing up in south Florida JP Dyal attended Auburn University where he earned a degree in finance. He then moved to Texas where he was a successful senior executive in the mortgage and finance industry. After the market collapse in 2007, JP left the corporate world. It was then that he became the owner of a beautiful, untamed Mustang named “Ego”, the first of many.
Training “Ego” taught JP much about horses but taught him even more about himself. As his love for training horses grew, he went on to work for some of the top trainers in the country. Although he was riding high dollar Quarter Horses, Mustangs were still his passion.
JP has gone on to compete in many Extreme Mustang Makeovers making the finals three times. He has also been invited to compete in the prestigious Mustang Magic four times. JP has won several titles in cowboy mounted shooting including the CMSA Arizona State Champion and the MSA World Champion Rookie Division.
In October of 2019 JP entered & competed in the American Mustang Training Challenge at the Norco Horse Affair with his horse Cody. There he became the “Double Down” Champion. This award was given for the most points earned overall at the AMTC and the most points earned at the ACMA competition in June. JP plans to continue competing in future events while working at the Sacramento Sheriffs Department as the Ranch Manager for the Wild Horse Inmate Program.
